The gamelan returns again to the Land of Medicine Buddha for their annual Festival Day on June 22. The great thangka of the Medicine Buddha will be taken out and carried up the hill in a grand procession, with processional gamelan music accompanying. At the Memorial Shrine the thangka will be unfurled between two redwood trees with great fanfare outside the beautiful Tibetan-style Memorial Shrine. It's an amazing experience whether you count yourself as a Buddhist or not.

This year the gamelan will give a short performance of traditional Balinese music at 10am before the procession.

The procession will set off from the Gompa at the lower level of the beautiful Land of Medicine Buddha grounds at about 11am.

Also in the afternoon there will be a Medicine Buddha Puja ceremony, as well as music and dance performances from Tibetan and other Asian traditions. Food and vendor booths will also be open in the upper area..

The event runs from 10am till 4pm.

Directions from Santa Cruz: Take Hwy 1 south to the Porter Street/Bay Avenue exit and turn left under freeway. Turn right onto Main Street. Parking for the Festival Day is off-site at Main Street Elementary School at 3400 North Main Street, Soquel. Free shuttle buses will run from 9:00am. On-site parking is available for a $20 carbon offset fee.
